Her Majesty the Queen today marked the State Opening of Parliament by making a speech in the House of Commons.
In an address in the House of Commons today the Queen marked the State Opening of Parliament by outlining the government’s proposed policies of the next session in a grand ceremony.
Although the tradition of the State Opening and delivery of a speech by the monarch can be traced back to the 16th century, the modern ceremony dates from the opening of the new Palace of Westminster in 1852 by Queen Victoria.
