Visit Cheltenham

Pittville Pump Room, Cheltenham

The historic spa town of Cheltenham is famous as the home of British jump racing, but it is a popular place to visit throughout the year

It’s Gold Cup day at the Cheltenham Festival, the shining jewel in jump racing’s crown, and four days of high-octane excitement have been played out on a stage framed by the breathtaking vista of the Cotswold Hills. But once the champagne has been drunk, the winners decided and the cameras moved on, the pretty spa town returns to normality, its fine regency terraces unencumbered by rowdy crowds of race goers.

Cheltenham is justly famous for its fabulous racecourse, and there are meets held there throughout the season that all provide a fun-filled day out. But the racing festival isn’t the only attraction the town has to offer. In fact, there’s also Cheltenham’s Literature Festival, Jazz Festival, Science Festival and Music Festival taking place, so there are events to look forward to all year round. And with its wealth of gorgeous architecture and the pretty maze-like Suffolks area that has tiny cafés, specialist shops and a continental feel, Cheltenham is the perfect place to spend a long weekend simply exploring.
