Every November and December, the Thursford Steam Museum (which houses the world’s largest collection of steam engines and organs) is transformed into a winter wonderland for the Thursford Christmas Spectacular, offering audiences the opportunity to escape into the world of Christmas.

Firmly putting North Norfolk on the map, the show has grown from being a small carol concert in an old farm shed, into the biggest Christmas show of its kind in Europe. With a new show every year, the team continually strives to push the limits in terms of performance and production, becoming bigger and better than the last.

Preparations for the show begin in January and continues throughout the year up until rehearsals start in September. The Thursford Collection has recently undergone a huge restoration and installation project with a new state-of-the-art sound system being installed. The new system uses revolutionary object positioning software and has created a more immersive experience for audiences.

With an assembled cast of over 120 singers, dancers, orchestra, and speciality acts, a 130ft stage, and 1,400 audience members situated inside the steam museum, this is a show like no other. Not only does the talent come from afar, with many performing on the West End, but audiences as far as the USA make the special trip to this Christmas spectacle.

Every November and December, audiences are invited to book their seats, grab a mince pie and mulled wine, and be transported into a Christmas spectacular like no other. This show is a fast-moving celebration of the festive season, featuring an eclectic mix of both seasonal and year-round favourites.

The show has been running for 46 years, with the latest production being the biggest and most immersive yet.

John Cushing, OBE, Director and Producer of the Thursford Christmas Spectacular said: “There’s something for everyone in our show. Whether it’s classic Christmas, opera, musicals, or all out theatre, there is an abundance of festive fun to enjoy. This is a must-see show in the heart of North Norfolk, with many travelling from across the country. It’s a festive feast for all the senses. Tickets sell out every year so book early to avoid disappointment.”

2023’s speciality acts include acrobatic rollerskaters, a multi-British and European Mountain Bike Trials champion, and a juggling duo. The compere and comedian is Lloyd Hollett – The Comedy Wordsmith, who brings a unique style of comedy to the Thursford stage.

Visitors can stop by the shopping village, home to the famous Christmas Shop and pantry and the Garden Pavilion which transforms into a festive celebration of cafés, restaurant and bar serving up 35,000 mince pies, almost 19,000 mulled wines, and 24,000 tubs of ice cream each year. The luxurious, award-winning bed and breakfast Holly Lodge is just a 3-minute walk away.

The Thursford Christmas Spectacular was named as one of the top 50 shows to see in December 2023 by The Telegraph and is extremely popular amongst new and returning audiences.

Thursford is also home to Norfolk’s premium Father Christmas and Lantern Light Trail, Santa’s Magical Journey and Enchanted Journey of Light.
