In a new documentary ahead of the 20th anniversary of her death, Princess Diana’s two sons, Prince Harry and Prince William, have opened up about the grief they suffered following the death of their mother

A new documentary, which airs tonight (24 July 2017), shows Princes Harry and William open up publicly about their mother, the late Princess Diana, who Harry calls ”one of the naughtiest parents,“ for the first time.

In the programme, Prince William and Prince Harry share some of their earliest memories of their mother as they look at private photograph and they recall the final telephone conversation they had with her before her tragic death in August 1997.

Summing up his memories of his mother, Prince Harry says: ”She was our mum. She still is our mum. And of course, as a son I would say this, she was the best mum in the world. She smothered us with love, that’s for sure.“

The programme also includes contributions from some of the princess’s friends, including Sir Elton John and her brother, Charles Spencer.

The documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy will be screened on ITV tonight at 9pm.
