Summer Afternoon Tea at the Savoy

Enjoy a slice of luxury as you indulge in a traditional afternoon tea at the iconic hotel, where the celebrity guest list is as long as its history

The Savoy hotel, whose famous guests include everyone from Winston Churchill to Marilyn Monroe, has been serving afternoon tea since 1889, but guests can now enjoy a refreshing new twist on the classic menu ahead of the summer season.

Afternoon tea at the Savoy

A new Summer Afternoon Tea menu has been created by executive pastry chef Daniel Pearse (previously of The Mandarin Oriental, The Langham, and most recently Hakkasan London) in conjunction with JING Tea.

Relax under the beautiful glass dome in the Thames Foyer, the heart of the hotel, while enjoying live music played on the piano.

After choosing from a wonderful selection of teas, indulge in a delicious choice of finger sandwiches and savoury treats. Our favourites were the Scottish smoked salmon, cream cheese and fennel pollen on lemon brioche, and the asparagus and parmesan quiche. If you haven’t had your fill a tray is brought round for you to help yourself to seconds.

Savoury is followed by sweet as a tier of cakes arrives at the table. This includes plain and raisin scones with clotted cream and jam, as well as lemon curd. Delicate pastries included a seasonal summer fruit tartlet, pistachio madeleine and lemon cake, but the icing on the cake was definitely the tropical roulade biscuit joconde with mango and passion fruit jelly and banana cremeux.

If you’re looking to experience a quintessential English afternoon tea, The Savoy offers excellent service, a pleasant atmosphere and a fascinating history, and this new summery menu is an added reason to visit.
