Joanna Lumley reveals her hidden London gems

Voices At One: Leading personalities including Joanna Lumley reveal their Covent Garden hidden gems on film

A new film project featuring actress and activist Joanna Lumley and revealing her passion for London’s Covent Garden has just been released.

Launched by One Aldwych hotel, London, this series of six short films, entitled Voices At One and all shot on location, will impart the favourite haunts of Lumley and seven other influential figures. These include Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council, and Dame Sarah Storey, Paralympic champion.

The unscripted, four-minute films, all interspersed with personal anecdotes, will offer insight into the favourite galleries, eateries, and quiet enclaves in the heart of London of all of the partaking personalities. Taking a closer look at this cosmopolitan neighbourhood, the visual guides are a rare opportunity to discover its best-kept secrets.

In Lumley’s video, she talks about her fondness for London, reminiscing about her first visit aged 11 for a ballet exam, and being instantly captivated by the capital, determined to one day live there. She also recalls walking through Covent Garden as a young model in the sixties (at the time still a flower and vegetable market), and stallholders who would spot her skinny frame offering her something to eat, calling out ‘hello Joanna darling, want an orange darling?’

To celebrate the launch, One Aldwych is offering a prize of a two-night stay for two people including six money-can’t-buy elements inspired by the Voices At One personalities. The winner will enjoy a private viewing of a Joanna Lumley film in the Screening Room, a Royal Opera House backstage tour, a copy of Diane Von Furstenberg: Journey Of A Dress from Rizzoli, a private candy-making masterclass with Hope & Greenwood, a pair of tickets to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and two spa treatments in the Health Club at One Aldwych.
