Have you ever dreamt of staying in a castle? Thornbury Castle in Gloucestershire is one of the country’s finest. Built in 1511 during the reign of Henry VIII – the king stayed here with his second wife Anne Boleyn in 1535 – it was one of the grandest buildings of its time and has hosted kings, queens and dukes over the centuries.

Now, one lucky reader and their guest can win a night’s stay at this opulent and historic hotel, in a Superior Deluxe Bedchamber. The castle’s luxurious rooms have been sensitively restored, with many of them featuring four-poster beds and rich period details; look out for the Tudor rose woven into the carpets. The hotel fully embraces its historic heritage, and a stay here allows you to effortlessly slip back in time.
Our winner and their guest will enjoy a sumptuous three-course dinner in the Two AA Rosette fine dining restaurant, dining on the creations of acclaimed Executive Chef Carl Cleghorn. Afterwards, stroll the beautiful grounds and admire the castle’s many original features, from its arrow-slit windows, crenellations and oriel windows to the original plantings in the walled Tudor kitchen garden.
In the morning, our guests will be treated to a full English breakfast fit for a king before they bid farewell to the castle and head out to explore the surrounding area. Within a short drive are the vibrant cities of Bath and Bristol, the National Arboretum at Westonbirt and the quaint towns and villages of the Cotswolds.

Closing date for entries is 12pm GMT 27 February 2023. The prize is for a one-night stay for two guests sharing a Superior Deluxe Bedchamber, and is non-transferable. A 3-course dinner for two and a full English breakfast for two are included. Dates are subject to availability, and exclude UK Bank Holidays, Christmas, New Year and Valentine’s. The prize must be redeemed by 30 June 2023.
