Beautiful coin marks much-loved children’s author with Peter Rabbit design.
Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit is to appear on a new 50p coin to celebrate 150 years since the author’s birth.
The new coin is among a raft of new designs for 2016 from The Royal Mint which mark key moments and people from British history over the last thousand years.
The Beatrix Potter coin will also be join by £2 coins depicting Shakespeare’s most famous plays, marking 400 years since the bard’s death.
Other coins mark the anniversaries of historic events this year including the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings and 350 years since the Great Fire of London.
Each coin bears the fifth definitive portrait of the Queen by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark, first introduced to UK coinage in 2015.
Anne Jessopp, director of commemorative coin at The Royal Mint, said: “It is always exciting to see the new year’s design revealed, commemorating moments that matter, and revisiting some of the great and stories from our history.
“The British public should start to see these coins appearing in their change from spring 2016.”
