The baby girl, The Queen’s fourth great grandchild and now 16th in line to the throne, was born at Gloucester Royal Hospital early this morning, weighing 7lbs 12oz.

Buckingham Palace confirmed her husband, former England rugby captain Mike Tindall, was present at the birth of the couple’s only child.

The palace said in a statement: “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal, Captain Mark Phillips and Mike’s parents, Mr Phillip and Mrs Linda Tindall, have been informed and are delighted with the news. The baby’s name will be confirmed in due course.”

Zara’s pregnancy was announced last July as the world’s press were camped outside The Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London, where Prince George of Cambridge was born. Prince George is Zara’s godson and it is expected that the two infants will spend plenty of time together as they grow up.
