As the Queen’s granddaughter settles into motherhood, we give Zara Phillips some ideas of royal baby names.
British Bookies William Hill may have slashed the odds on Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall naming their baby daughter Poppy, but in case the couple haven’t picked their little girl’s name yet, we’ve come up with some royal baby name suggestions to help them decide.
Victoria
To date Victoria is the longest reigning British monarch, which may inspire Zara and Mike’s decision-making.
Elizabeth
The 16th in line to the throne could be named after her great grandmother, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who will surpass the length of Victoria’s reign if she is still on the throne in September 2015.
Jane
Lady Jane Grey is often referred to as the ‘Nine Days Queen’ due to her short tenure on the throne, but perhaps this classic name will have struck a chord with Zara.
Alexandra
One of The Queen’s middle names, Alexandra is also the name given to the only daughter of the late Prince George, Duke of Kent.
Mary
Another of The Queen’s middle names, Mary was also the name of Her Majesty’s own grandmother, the wife of George V.
Charlotte
The name of King George III’s wife ranks at number 7 in many lists of popular girls’ names for 2014 and in its shortened form it could even be a nod to Prince Charles.
Anne
Zara’s daughter could be named after her grandmother, Princess Anne, who like Zara is a keen horse rider.
