Until 11 August, Bristol International Balloon Fiesta offers an extraordinary spectacle, with over 150 hot air balloons of various shapes and sizes filling the skies on numerous occasions.

Half a million visitors are expected to visit the gorgeous grounds of the historic Ashton Court Estate to watch balloons lift off.

The fiesta, which has been running for 35 years, opened yesterday with a balloon tethering display and then later there was the stunning famous Nightglow display, where 30 ballooning teams lit up their balloons to music to a backdrop of spectacular fireworks as night fell. There will be another fabulous Nightglow display on Saturday evening.

Saturday is set to be the busiest day, with 6am and 6pm mass balloon ascents as well as the all-female Breitling Wingwalkers who will perform stunts in the skies. There will also be parachute displays.

Additionally there’s fairground fun on offer, with exciting rides, adventurous food stalls and a bandstand with a full programme of local acoustic music to keep the crowds entertained in between the air displays.

Best of all, this fantastic fiesta is completely free!
