Make the most of your time in the capital this year. Try to squeeze as many of these top things to do in London into your visit as possible

Whisper sweet nothings in St Paul’s Cathedral

Climbing up into the Whispering Gallery of St Paul’s is one of the most memorable things to do in London. Enlist a friend to check if it’s true that a quirk in the design means a whisper against its walls can be heard on the other side.

Pose by Big Ben

Big Ben’s chimes may be silent for the foreseeable, but as least one of its clock faces will still be on show while maintenance work on the giant bell and its tower takes place. While here, book onto a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament, too.

All aboard the Thames Clippers

Hop on at Millbank by Tate Britain and take the 18-minute Thames Clippers boat taxi to Tate Modern at Bankside. Not only will you enjoy day of culture, you’ll experience some world-class sightseeing en route.

Ride the Mail Rail

Take a subterranean tour aboard a miniature train through a hidden network of tunnels. The Mail Rail route once formed a vital communications artery for London.

Bye bye Dippy, hello Hope

Visitors to the Natural History Museum will no longer be greeted by the giant Diplodocus (Dippy), which guarded the Hintze Hall for decades, but an enormous skeleton of a blue whale. The whale is named ‘Hope’ as a symbol of our power to shape a sustainable future.  The blue whale has been rescued from the brink of extinction.

Get floored at Tower Bridge

See London through a glass floor, walk the Hall of Fame and hear about the unsung heroes of the iconic bridge, or simply take in the exceptional city views.

Up at the 02

London’s 02 plays host to some of the biggest bands in the world, but did you know you can also climb its roof? Attached by harness you’ll ascend to the top of the dome for the ultimate in urban mountaineering.

Take a spin on the London Eye

Just across the river from the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, the Coca-Cola London Eye offers some of the best views in London. Upgrade to a Champagne Experience and you’ll receive a glass of bubbly, plus Fast Track entry.

Go underground

Visit the bunkers where Winston Churchill and his government made crucial decisions during the Second World War in the Churchill War Rooms (as depicted in the film Darkest Hour) underneath Whitehall.
