A live event held at the historic Monument attraction in the City of London will hear five original tales inspired by folklore and the iconic landmark itself
The Monument, one of the City’s most historic attractions, is to host an exclusive evening event on 12 March: ‘Stairwell Stories – Folktales for Fearless Adults’, tales of love, longing and passion.
The intimate live event is the first of its kind to be held at the historic attraction and will consist of five original tales inspired by the folklore of the City and the famous Monument itself. All of which will encompass magical, contemporary twists on classic fairytales, intended to unlock guests’ imaginations.
The Monument, designed by Sir Christopher Wren in 1671-1677 to commemorate the Great Fire of London, is 202ft high and stands 202ft from where the fire started in Pudding Lane. It is the tallest isolated stone column in the world and has been open to visitors for over 300 years. Today it welcomes over 200,000 annual visitors.
The event will feature actress and international professional storyteller, Nell Phoenix, who will tell the stories live through ‘silent disco’ style headphones. The event will begin at the bottom of The Monument and continue as guests climb the 311 spiral staircase to the top of the column where they can take in the beautiful views of the City and the riverbank from one of London’s best vantage points. Soundscapes will be incorporated to further animate the stories by radio show Nyx Chariot from the award-winning NTS Radio.
Tickets are £20 per person and can be booked through Billetto. Tea will be provided on arrival. Arrive: 6.30pm for 7pm start on Thursday 12 March. Event lasts one hour.
