New for 2015, this collection of restaurants high up on 20 Fenchurch Street in the City of London arguably offers the best views of the capital.

The beauty of Sky Garden is that many people don’t realise it’s there at all. Set back from the main facade of 20 Fenchurch Street in the City of London, this garden in the sky offers some of the best views in the capital.

Billed as a public space, visitors can access the landscaped gardens, open-air terrace and viewing platforms for free but security is tight and demand is high so you must book your visit to Sky Garden at least three days in advance online.

Once you negotiate the rather odd airport-style security to ascend its heights, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic vistas enabling you to see sights such as the Tower of London and the London Eye.

But by far the best way to experience this setting is by having dinner or drinks against the magnificent backdrop of London.

There are three venues to choose from: the Fenchurch Street Bar and Grill at the very top of the building, which serves up seafood and seasonal game and meat; the glamorous Sky Pod Bar where well-heeled types come for cocktails and Champagne; or the Darwin Brasserie, a more relaxed setting that offers classic British cuisine, with unobstructed views of landmarks including the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, the ‘Shard’ and ‘Gherkin’.

The menu includes the likes of braised ox cheeks, Goodwood Estate pork belly and Cornish lamb.

The food is good and the service understated but for us this venue is all about the view and that in itself is reason enough to visit.
