WHAT: Taunton Flower Show
WHEN: 3-4 August
WHERE: Taunton, Somerset
Somerset’s historic Vivary Park will once again host the annual Taunton Flower Show, often hailed by media as ‘The best in the West’. As it rivals its prestigious counterparts in London, this year the show is investing more than ever before on entertainment to captivate visitors of all ages, whether or not they be gardening enthusiasts. With a myriad of delightful activities from the Dog and Duck Display show to the Robin Hood themed displays and demonstrations, the sponsors of this year’s show are eager to promote the fun day out as much as the flowers. However the horticultural side of the show is in full bloom this year. The ‘Ready, Steady, Garden’ competition to build a small garden in just 2 hours is unique to Taunton Flower Show. With a nod to the topical concern for water conservation, the series of talks by experts will include a presentation by Dinah Lindon-Critchley of Blooming Hill Plants in Shepton Mallet on growing vegetables in dry conditions. Be sure to catch the beautiful and exotic displays by the South West Orchid Society and the British Cactus Society to inspire your gardens. And to wrap up the two day extravaganza make sure to get yourself a ticket to the Sunday evening Prom which is back after its inaugural success last year.
