This London outpost for Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin is housed inside the exquisite Flemings hotel in London’s Mayfair

One of the most exciting additions to London’s fine-dining arena, Ormer Mayfair is the first London restaurant for chef Shaun Rankin, who has built up a superb reputation (and a Michelin star) at his Jersey-based Ormer restaurant.

Shaun is noted for his commitment to using sustainably sourced and locally foraged Jersey ingredients and it’s no different here. Ingredients are shipped in each week and include everything from wild turbot to Jersey royals.

The lobster ravioli is one of Shaun Rankin’s signature dishes

Expect the taste from the sea in such dishes as Jersey crab or Rankin’s signature lobster ravioli. Meat-eaters are also well provided for with the roast rabbit loin (with pancetta, truffle gnocchi, girolles and coco beans, no less) and the Secreto of Iberico pork, which comes with an amazing chorizo and apple chutney.

While for dessert, who could resist Rankin’s own treacle tart, which comes with raspberries, Jersey clotted cream ice cream and mint?

But quite aside from the fabulous cooking – which is every bit as good as it sounds – the setting and service are befitting of a high-end restaurant.

With 1930s styling, it all feels rather decadent as you take your seat in one of the plush velvet banquets or leather chairs (it is housed within Flemings hotel after all) – even more so when the Champagne trolley arrives. Your dedicated waiter will talk you through the menu, while your sommelier will offer paired wines for each course.

It’s not cheap here, but then it is Mayfair, and somehow you don’t mind paying so much when the food is this good and the atmosphere so unashamedly glamorous.
