To mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, BRITAIN magazine has teamed up with London’s iconic Grosvenor House, to offer one lucky reader and guest the chance to win a two-night stay in this most regal of residences.
Centrally located on Park Lane in exclusive Mayfair, Grosvenor House stands on a site once occupied by Gloucester House, the London home of King George III’s brother, the Duke of Gloucester. After opening to the public in May 1929, with a design inspired by larger American hotels, the re-named Grosvenor House hotel even had a skating rink where the seven-year-old Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen Elizabeth II, learnt to skate.
Through the years many famous and iconic personalities including Jacqueline Kennedy, Henry Kissinger and Ella Fitzgerald have stayed at the hotel and although it has a strong Anglo-American connection, Grosvenor House remains quintessentially British, continuing to entertain the aristocratic, the celebrated and the wealthy at a continuous stream of charity balls, society weddings and awards dinners. The late Queen Mother used to take to the floor at The Royal Caledonian Ball during the 1950s and royalty still frequents its ballroom and corridors.
The winner (and guest) will feel like royalty themselves, staying in a wonderful Park View Suite with breakfast on both mornings. Also included is a wonderful Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut champagne and royal-themed afternoon tea for two, followed by a visit for two to the Sanrizz salon – where the winner can choose from a wash and blow dry or a relaxing shiatsu massage.
