With around 20 per cent more sunshine in summer than the rest of Britain, Bournemouth is a gardener’s paradise. Garden enthusiasts can head to the sub-tropical Alum Chine, where exotic species of plant and tree grow that are normally found in a more southerly latitude.

Bournemouth has long enjoyed a rich horticultural tradition and provides a great base for visiting the amazing and diverse gardens in the area. The town won a Silver Gilt Medal at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in 2012 and a Gold medal in the 2014 European Entente Florale.

Horticultural pioneers have lived and worked in the area since the mid-1800s and nearby you will find the UK’s first garden centre, the first commercial blueberry plantation, hidden plots and specialist nurseries of international acclaim.

The 2015 Spring Gardens offer combines special rates at a selection of Bournemouth hotels with ‘two for one’ discounted entries at a variety of local gardens including Abbotsbury, Knoll, Minterne, Larmer Tree and Heale. There are also special offers at Kingston Lacy and Trehane Nursery, plus recommendations for some of the best privately owned gardens in the National Gardens Scheme.

The nationally acclaimed Knoll Gardens is home of author and RHS Council Member, Neil Lucas, the UK’s leading ornamental grass specialist and winner of 10 consecutive Chelsea Gold medals. Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens was described by TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh as “one of the finest gardens I have ever visited.”
