This week marks the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, a document, sealed under duress by the errant King John, which went on to form the basis of modern democracy.

Earlier this week HM The Queen attended the official Magna Carta anniversary event at Runnymede, on the Thames, the site where King John put his name to the historic charter eight centuries ago, and now you too could visit the famous meadow on the banks of the River Thames by entering our competition to win a Magna Carta Freedom Break at the nearest hotel to the site, the Runnymede-on-Thames.

The Runnymede-on-Thames is a plush hotel offering executive suites with gigantic beds, a choice of two restaurants – one of which is award-winning – a luxurious spa and an outdoor swimming pool and children’s play area. All of this is offered in an enviable Thames-side location – you can even hire a boat from the hotel’s riverside terrace from May to September if you fancy a spot of messing about on the river.

Just 40 minutes from central London by train, the Runnymede-on-Thames is the ideal setting for a relaxing weekend by the river – and the perfect opportunity for paying tribute to one of history’s most significant moments this summer. While here make sure you visit the Magna Carta anniversary garden, fresh from its stint at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

You can book the Magna Carta Freedom Break for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night stays until 27 September 2015, while mid-week stays can be booked from 27 July to 31 August 2015. There are also options for one-night stays.
