As HM The Queen surpasses the record of her great great grandmother, Queen Victoria, to become our longest reigning monarch, this is your chance to congratulate her on her incredible achievements.
On 9 September, Her Majesty The Queen became Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, passing the 63 years and 216-day record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria. To see how the palace marked the occasion click here.
Throughout her reign she has been served by 12 prime ministers and she has overseen the ongoing transformation of the British Empire into the modern-day Commonwealth of Nations but she has also become a figurehead for Britain.
In typical style she marked the auspicious day of her anniversary by carrying out royal duties – namely opening the Borders Railway in Scotland – during which she thanked everyone for their “touching messages of kindness” but she said becoming Britain’s longest reigning monarch was not a title to which she had aspired.
