1. Daunt Books

The original and largest of six branches has a gorgeous triple-height gallery (pictured right) for browsing in comfort.

2. Hatchards

Begun in 1797, London’s oldest bookshop supplies the royal household. There are
five floors to explore, including plenty of signed copies and rare first editions.

3. London Review Bookshop

Run by the prestigious London Review of Books journal, this Bloomsbury store is great for personal recommendations of new titles and there’s an excellent café too.

4. Persephone Books

This publisher-cum-bookshop reprints neglected fiction by female writers in distinctive light-grey book jackets.

5. Lutyens & Rubinstein

The Notting Hill shop of a respected literary agency is stocked with carefully curated fiction and non-fiction titles.
