Damian Lewis and Keira Knightley to star in The Misanthrope

THERE IS MUCH EXCITEMENT in theatreland as it has just been announced that Damian Lewis, Keira Knightley, Tara Fitzgerald, Dominic Rowan and Tim McMullan will all star in upcoming play The Misanthrope at London's Comedy Theatre.

Martin Crimp’s adaptation of Molière's greatest comedy transports the action from 17th century Paris to modern-day London. Alceste (Damian Lewis, Life and Band of Brothers) is a famous British playwright disillusioned and angry with the hypocrisy, shallowness and vanity of the contemporary world. Vowing to reject society, Alceste’s plans are derailed when he falls madly in love with Jennifer (Keira Knightley, Pride & Prejudice and Atonement). An ambitious American film star and darling of the social scene, she may prove to be his biggest challenge yet.

The Misanthrope (17 December-13 March 2010), The Comedy Theatre, Panton Street, London SW1. Box office tel: 0844 871 7612; www.themisanthropelondon.com.
